September 8 - October 21

FREE

Creative Impulse, Dale Goode

Opening Reception: Friday, September 8, 5:30 – 8:00pm

Program: ArtBites / Artist Talk: Dale Goode  – Saturday October 7, 1:00 – 2:00pm

Artist Dale Goode work was archived in 2020, and a small selection from the collection will be shown along with never before seen works on paper from 2019 – 2023, and two mixed media sculptures in Creative Impulse.

Dale has been creating art for more than 40 years and has a history of working with found materials in an unconventional way. Much of his work, regardless of medium, has to do with the repurposing and recontextualizing unwanted areas and materials. His sculpture in particular combines discarded objects, and clothing into very expressionistic, almost frenzied works mounted onto old fences and heavily coated in gesso, and other donated paints. The combination of materials for these works evoke a kind of transformational pathos for a society that creates so much waste. His historical use of gold paint over the entire sculpture is a statement about what is considered valuable and what is not in terms of both humans and objects, and the comparison between socio economically and racially divided classes of people. His two-dimensional work, collage, paintings and mono prints are very similar in their intent and in their use of experimental process and incorporation of discarded waste. Dale Goode received his Bachelor of Arts from Hiram College and pursued his graduate studies at Kent State University. Goodes work has been included in some exceptional exhibitions over the years, including: FRONT: An American City; The Akron Art Museums’s Heavy Metal Exhibition; AAWR’s seenUNseen; Black Life as Subject Matter at the OAC Riffe Gallery; The Butler Museum of American Art. His work is included in various corporate, university and institutional collections, Akron Art Museum, University Hospital of Cleveland, Hiram College, Progressive Insurance Co., NAACP, and The Dalad Group. He was selected as one of the International artists to participate in Front International Triennial and has received a grant from SPACES, and
also from the Assembly for the Arts for 2023. Dale Goodes work is currently represented by Hedge Gallery in Cleveland.

On October 7, from 1:00 – 2:00pm Dale will be on hand in the gallery to present an artist talk about his latest works, his life and his career. To attend the free program, please register on ArtistsArchives.org

The Archives is Expanding!

The building that AAWR has shared for the past twenty-four years with The Sculpture Center will soon be occupied solely by the Artists Archives. AAWR is extremely excited about the prospect of more than doubling its home gallery space, and its capacity to showcase its collection, which now numbers close to 10,000 works by 100 artists. To celebrate on September 8, we are presenting two solo inaugural Archived Artists exhibitions simultaneously in separate gallery spaces. Creative Impulse: Archived Artist Dale Goode, and Terry Klausman, A Retospective, will both open on the same night and each artist will be attending his reception. While some minimal construction will take place before the September exhibitions open to turn the current AAWR office into a gallery, when the AAWR closes down for its winter break in the rest of the construction to join all of the three gallery spaces together will be completed.
