ART BITES – Nutrition for the Creative Mind

Art Bites - Nutrition for the Creative Mind2017 Marks the launching of our new schedule of programs entitled ART BITES – Nutrition for the Creative Mind. ART BITES is a series of three ongoing programs that offer information for artists and like-minded individuals. Professional Practices for Artists, Collecting Art Talks and Artist Studio Tours.

Professional Practices for Artists imparts information to help artists navigate the marketplace and provides knowledge beneficial to artistic careers. This year, we are proud to present Business of Art for Artists with Mary Urbas. This 6-week class is designed as a first-step towards helping the artist make a successful transition from creating art to presenting and promoting it. Mary Urbas will share her 35 years of experience in the professional art world as a gallery owner, curator, teacher, and consultant. As an exhibited artist, she is able to bring a real-world perspective to both sides of the business of marketing fine art. The Business of Art for Artists series is free to the public courtesy of a matching grant provided by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.

Collecting Art Talks are presentations which help promote the idea of art as an economic engine. They stimulate the local economy by pulling together artists, art collectors both new & experienced, curators, art historians, art dealers and gallery owners. Educating the public on how, who, where and why to buy original art helps artists and art related businesses to thrive. 2017 will see Collecting African American Art with David Lusenhop on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 and Collecting Outsider Art with Thomas Wagner Saturday, May 27th.

The final category of Art Bites programs, Artist Studio Tours, are designed to give the general public and art enthusiasts a personal glimpse at the innovative world of area artists. In addition to showcasing how and where an artist creates, these programs also aid artists by allowing them to practice communicating about their work or demonstrating their process in a relaxed and familiar atmosphere.
