Immigrant Series: Hallowed Portraits oil and cold wax  18 x18″  $750

I began working in an abstract style in an attempt to express ideas not easily communicated in representational work. My inspiration comes from history, both personal and universal, places and cultures. The way I work in encaustic and oil cold wax, in layers, scraping back and excavating, ties in with my desire to understand the stories and history I am communicating. Recently, I started a new series about immigration. All my family members have immigrated to all corners of the world. What drives people to leave their home country? What are they looking for? Who decides where home is? Can you ever go back to a place that no longer exists?
