George Kocar is a painter in the tradition of Red Grooms, Peter Saul, Jim Nutt, Philip Guston and others who use cartoon images to comment on society. I believe we live in a crazy world that as a society has numerous questionable practices. I appropriate styles and images from art history and combine them to produce a new image that will hopefully make a point to my audience. I try to balance tragedy and humor to produce an outrageous images, that should not only make the viewer laugh but think as well.
