Estate Planning for Artists

Jaclyn Vary and Steven Day, from the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, will provided basic information on estate planning and charitable planning to help artists and collectors plan for the future and prepare their legacies.

Jaclyn M. Vary is an associate at Schneider, Smeltz, Ranney & LaFond, P.L.L. Jaclyn counsels individuals, families and businesses primarily in the areas of estate planning and administration, corporate law, nonprofit law, trust administration and related legal matters. Jackie is Chair of the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts Committee of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar association and Chair of the Good Deeds Committee of the Geauga County Bar Association.
Prior to entering the legal field, Jaclyn attended Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, MA where she majored in Ballet. Jackie continued to pursue her love of Ballet while at Columbia University. In addition to ballet, she was a swing dancer with Columbia Swing, and hip-hop performer with Columbia RawElementz. Jackie frequently attends Cleveland Orchestra concerts at Blossom with her husband, Michael, and their three children.
Steven W. Day is a partner at Calfee, Halter and Griswold, LLP – Cleveland. He is a member of the firm’s Entertainment, Media and the Arts group, in which he advises artists, musicians and arts organizations on a broad range of legal issues ranging from taxes, corporate governance, employment and compensation arrangements, performance contracts and art transactions. Steve is also a member of the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts Committee of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. Steve has advised numerous artists, arts organizations and their executives, including the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Playhouse Square Foundation, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society, the Cleveland Music Settlement, Encore Chamber Music Institute and Artful Ohio. Steve is on the Board of Directors of the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society and the Advisory Board for Encore Chamber Music Institute. Prior to becoming an attorney, Steve worked for Sony Music Entertainment in its marketing and A&R division.
