Biography

Robert Wright has been capturing the movement of dance for over 49 years in his expressive mixed media paintings and collage works.

“Capturing the gesture and pose of human movement is challenging..…My paintings are not unlike a calculus of form in time and space, a calligraphy, or fluid hieroglyphics. Color, texture and layering appropriate a cultural artifact of movement and expression.”

Wright views human movement as a reflection of unique identity.

“Through paint and composition in two dimensions I attempt to create an abstracted world of human energy and andromorphic meaning. The results are asemic calligraphy driven by figurative gesture of beauty, grace, strength, balance, and rhythm.”

Wright holds a  B.F.A. (Painting) from the Rhode Island School of Design, and an M.A. (Art Education) from  Ohio State University in Columbus. He has shown his work in over 34 solo exhibitions since 1975, and has been included in over 100 group exhibitions around the country. He is the recipient of many awards including an OAC, ADAP grant, the Ohio State Fair, and second place in Art International ’97. His work can be found in the corporate collections: JP Morgan Chase, Polaris Headquarters, Columbus Oh; Bank of America, New York, NY; Stifel Investments, Lancaster OH; and the private collection of Mr & Mrs Sylvester Stallone, Hollywood, CA. His many critical reviews include one from the NY Times in 2002.
